A small introduction in to the world of blogging and the blog platforms that are available to novice and industry experts. I have created a small list and a little info to allow you to see which Platform suits your needs best.
So… where to start? Well, I guess we should do a little introduction in to what a blog actually is ( I know, I don’t know anyone who doesn’t know what a blog is but hey! ). A blog is and allows you to publish on the interweb and gives you a place for you to put your thoughts and ideas on the web. This could be called a journal or diary or ? Whatever.
There are many blogging platforms available and with some you can either create a blog under the main company ie: me.maincompany.com or download source files and host them on your own websites domain, completely up to you. Below I have created a small list of some of the most popular blog platforms that are available and just a few little comments regarding each company.

Blogger
Blogger much like the others below is a free web publishing blog platform but owned by the well known company Google. This Blog will give you a free domain but with the prefix of blogspot however you can add pretty much anything to it including video and static images. As this is a Google product it comes with a lot of documentation and is a great way to get started with blogging.

Moveable Type
Moveable Type is an open source blogging software that allows heavy customisation to themes (the looks) and the functionality of your site. To use Moveable type it is best if you have some coding experience and even though there is a lot of documentation I wouldn’t recommend this for the newbie. Overall this is a very good platform and extremely flexible.
Wordpress
The Big One, well in my opinion anyway. Wordpress is also an open source blog platform much like Blogger where you can also have your own free domain on a prefix but can also download it and run it off your own database and domain as well. This platform is extremely flexible and can be used as a content management system as well, but we will get in to that another time.
The best thing I can recomend is that you do your research and see which blog is best suited to you as any of the above are pretty good. Feel free to let me know your thoughts towards any blogging platforms you may of used in the past or use now.
